Our 3rd year online!
Who would have thought we would make it 3 years? well, I kinda did. Its easy when you love what you do!
This week we put out an offer, either free shipping over $100 spend or 10% discount for smaller items!
We received a couple of orders straight away but there’s plenty of stock on the site with further discounts worth checking out! (the kitchen bench is my order packing area!)
A new maker hits the shed!
If you haven’t already seen our newest maker to join the Shed Friends team its Robert Perry, a retired box making extraordinaire.
As always the makers that I choose to collaborate with bring a special talent that I could never dream to be able to achieve, often utilising a set of tools and experience not in my arsenal.
Along with that I choose to work with fellow makers that follow my own principles of finishing to a very high standard, this can be seen in Roberts works as seen here.
We currently have four boxes available for purchase however custom commisions are welcome, we have just started work on one this week! A highly figured Birds eye Huon Pine box for a repeat customer!
A personal project
Having 5 and 7 year old daughters that think I am a wizard being able to make things from wood sets the standards pretty high in this household. So I knew that buying some cheap desks from a furniture store just wasnt going to cut it for this project.
I have been wanting the girls to have their own desks for a while as the kitchen counter can get quickly overrun with art and homework projects.
I love that the girls enjoy getting artistic and also learning through reading and writing, I want to continue to inspire that!
The first desk for Alaia (7yr) is a camphor laurel slab and Millie’s (5yr) desk is a made from a recycled laminated oak bench top
I used a plug cutter for all of the smaller dowels and made larger dowels on the lathe, spinning thicker and thinner sections giving me flexibility to drill different sized holes to accommodate.
Having a dad like they do (aka me) I thought they should deserve some very interesting and rare timber features, thus I used Huon Pine, Tasmanian Blackwood, American Walnut, Purple Heart, Purple Gidgee, regular brown Gidgee, Banksia and Jarrah just to name a few.
Its a good feeling to be able to make them something really unique, and to let them have something that I wont make for anyone else (sorry folks) I think its important for them to know that dad makes stuff, but he makes us really special stuff.. the stuff that money cant buy!
Upcoming market dates
I have received an invitation this week to attend the next Make It Big market being held at the Gosford Gallery which will be held on the 29th November, this one being a twighlight market from 4pm to 8pm. I have gone ahead and booked myself a 3x3m marquee for the first time ever!
The next one on the list is the Bells at Killcare market the following weekend on Sunday the 7th of December, no confirmations here just yet but I would love to make it 3 in a row to this one!
That’s the latest from the Shed, as always thanks for following along and feel free to reach out should you have any questions or comments.
