Market breakdown & works in progress

The first Make It Big market at the Gosford Regional Gallery was being promoted as the biggest maker and artist market on the Central Coast and wow, what a genuinely fun day out!

With over 70 stalls the day looked like a great success, I enjoyed that the stalls had good space between them and the crowd was able to flow and mingle freely. It was a slow pace which allowed me to be present with my customers. I was fortunate enough to score an undercover section however it wasn’t necessary, the weather was great and people were out in droves enjoying the clear weather. If this market is on again I hope to make another appearance.

Despite Mothers day being past us and seemingly no real reason for gifts to be purchased I found many of the customers buying gifts for THEMSELVES! With my worry rocks laid out at the front of my stand I found people were drawn in at the chance to get a feel for them in person.

Now with that market behind me I look forward to where I can setup next, please let me know if you think there’s a market I should attend!

Between the market and online sales this month we have officially sold our first bowls from Damien of Little Warrior Shields, If you haven’t seen Damien’s works on the lathe you can see them here. For those of you that aren’t yet familiar with Damien’s work off the lathe it can be summed up simply by saying he gives the littlest of warriors a reason to smile and its all off his own back. Its easy to see why its worth supporting Damien and our collaboration aims at providing always needed tools and equipment from the sale of his works.

On the workbench for me this month I have a set of Purple Heart stacking stones with a Tasmanian Blackwood base, a bigger set than I’ve made before with a really grand base to encourage play. This one is turning out to be special and I have two woodworking competitions I am thinking of entering with it.

Also if you haven’t already seen the Silky Oak carved and burnt bowl I completed recently has grabbed some attention and this could also be a piece I submit for judging, I have been asked by a few how much is it?? and I cant tell you! I have no idea!, its so huge it couldn’t fit on my lathe, its carved, its burnt, its sanded and its amazing if I say so myself! As I progress with those pieces I will keep you updated on my socials!

I have a BUNCH of worry rocks leftover from the market day, if you would like to “literally” get your hands on some send me a message via the instagram link below ASAP as they wont last long!

That’s a quick little update for this month, thankyou to those that came out for the market day and I hope to talk to you all again soon!

Nathan
